First ALADDIN annual meeting: Reflections on the first year and a look ahead

The meeting allowed the partners to share their progress from the first months of the project and discuss potential future directions.

The ALADDIN consortium came together in Madrid, Spain, this past October 16–17th to discuss the work completed in the different work packages (WPs) of the project so far. During the two days, all partners presented their updates from the first ten months of the project and discussed plans for the upcoming months and years.

The first day of the meeting focused on scientific presentations, while the second day was centred around communication, dissemination, exploitation, as well as data and project management.

The importance of the multidisciplinary nature of the project was highlighted on various occasions during the meeting.

“We work towards a common goal but come from very different backgrounds,” says Luis Ángel Fernández, coordinator of the ALADDIN project and Principal Investigator at the Centro Nacional de Biotecnología (CNB-CSIC) in Spain.

“Reaching our objectives would not be possible without the variety of expertise in our consortium: molecular and synthetic biology, genome engineering, mathematical modelling, AI, microfluidics, technology transfer, and communication.”

In addition to the presentations, the project partners had the chance to familiarise themselves with the Spanish capital of Madrid through walking tours after the work days. A huge thanks to the CNB-CSIC for organising and hosting the meeting!
